Onco is dealing with cancer patients, so (depending on the unit) you'll see lots of people receiving chemotherapy and radiation treatment.

Med surg ortho surg floor.

Some common conditions that med surg nurses may have to treat include: Ruby vee gave you some good information. This would include med/surg, telemetry, ortho, neuro, critical care, stepdown, progressive care, er, or, pacu, etc.

The floor i'll be on after graduation gets its fair share of tkr's and thr's and since i'm not too comfortable w/ post surgical patients and i have no experience w/ traction i was thinking the ortho/neuro floor. You may just get the med/surg experience anyway. We continuously strive to improve outcomes and provide exceptional experiences for our patients, staff, and community

Most commonly the procedures we see are hip fractures (total hips) and elective hip (bipolar/hemiarthroplasties) and knee replacements, sometimes a shoulder or ankle fracture thrown in the mix and sometimes fasciotomies. We continuously strive to improve outcomes and provide exceptional experiences for our patients, staff, and community Is med surg floor hard?.

I really enjoyed the pt floor there and was told i could apply to that and the recruiter also recommended an ortho med surg unit. Ortho is a lot of hip and knee replacements, fractures, casts, surgical dressing changes, assisting with increasing mobility.that sort of stuff. When i float to other med surg floors on night shift i get bored.

A lot of what you do now in ltc will carry on into this new job (taking vitals, cleaning up people and changing their briefs, fetching things for patients/nurses). Mercy health muskegon at the mercy campus located on the 8th floor hosts a 30 bed med/surg floor specializing in ortho patients. Its so quiet when 90% of the patients are sleeping and no one is yelling for pain meds, pca pump capnography isnt going off every 30 seconds, no post op puking or q1h neuro/vital checks.
